Newly Acquired Sensor Technology

The Parsum Probe is Malvern's newly acquired instrument for measuring powders in situ and in real-time. This industrial instrument is a great addition to the exceptional line of particle measurement devices that Malvern Process System offers. This new addition allows measurements of lower concentration applications, previously not available in Malvern's suite of instrumentation. The Parsum utilizes a unique Spatial Filter Velocimetry theory used in a wide range of lower number density applications. It is a particle counter with a wide size dynamic range that is a small, compact and robust.

Rugged Industrial Solution

Parsum is IP66 dust proof and waterproof, ideal for any industrial environment. The small probe has been installed in many industries, measuring the particle size distribution of all types of granulates and powders. It has provided a process solution in applications ranging from food products to detergents and other chemicals. By weighing a mere 1.5kg, this lightweight probe is easily installed directly into the process line. The accessories allow the instrument to also be used in high concentration and partially wet streams.

Applicable to:

Solid particles suspended in a gas stream, either flowing by gravity or pneumatically, measuring in the range 50-6000µm with a velocity range of 0.01-50m/s.

Principle of Measurement

The Parsum probe uses Spatial Filter Velocimetry to measure the size of particles. The sensor works on a fiber optic patented measurement principle. It simultaneously measures the size and velocity of individual particles using the extended fiber optic local filter method and produces a standard volumetric particle size distribution.
